World's screaming for a solution

Enter the Green Revolution
Stronger! Better! Faster!
Monsanto is your master
Bow down to biotechnology
GMO will save the world, you'll see
More crops, less bugs, more production, more production!
Just mine more petroleum, fossil fuels
These toxic chemicals - they're just tools!
Grow and grow and grow
Until 125 million pounds of pesticides are applied
Annually
in the U.S.A., the "land of the free"

Free to starve, free to lose your land,
your livelihood, your family business,
your family
Free to be poisoned
As corporate chemical agriculture takes over
The industry.

The Green Revolution
The sickest misnomer of the 20th century
The ruthless colonization of the soil
Mono-cropping, there's no stopping
Factory farms expand and spoil

Did anyone stop to ask why the soil is eroding
Did anyone stop to ask why the hunger rate's exploding
Did anyone stop to ask about the dead zones in the sea
Does anyone even know what the word hypoxia means?!

Zero. Point. One. Percent
Is how many pesticides
having been applied
reach their intended target.

So where do all the rest go?
Into the rivers, into the seas
Into the animals that most people eat
Into the atmosphere, the air that we breathe
Leaching into our grains and our veggies!

Not to mention creating super-insects and super-weeds
Increasingly resistant to the poisons that bleed
All over, and into, everything
Requiring more poison, more chemicals
That kill indiscriminately.

GMO and pesticide use
Is out-of-control violent abuse
Of our ecosystems, also
Alienating arable land
With one-third of it now gone
How much more can we stand?!
Soil erosion and water pollution
Petroleum pesticides are NOT the solution!

Production gains are slowing
Switching to reverse
Unsustainable practices
Are being realized as a curse
The land that has fed us since time immemorial
Cannot keep up with this sadistic burial
Of permaculture, ethics, eco and social justice
We're now under the thumbs of the corporate hands that feed us
And have you noticed that world hunger has increased?
While food sovereignty has been radically decreased?
So many small farms have gone under
While corporations pillage and plunder
Distribution was the problem from the start
Equitable access to resources is what is smart!

Stop coating our food with poison
Take back the power to grow some
The land cannot keep up with these chemicals
Take up permaculture, replenish the soil
Stop buying from Monsanto
Enough with the pesticides and GMO!
Local organic Indigenous foods
In our hands will stop the economic and eco abuse!
