I would give anything for adventure if you would give everything for love.

The Same Old Way

I still remember the day we met
You were so innocent
I was so naive
I was fourteen, you were fifteen
We didn’t know anything.

First you smoked a little pot
Smuggling the pipe on New Year’s Eve
Out by the trees by the pool by the school
You, another girl, and me
You said it takes a couple times
To get high, to get high.
A couple times had come and gone
I watched you two learn to fly.

The months went by
The shit went down
Another year passed us by
Whirlwind of life – we were never there
Never bothered to show up.

I ran away
From it all, from the town
From all the drugs and the burn-outs and the pain that I knew
I never looked back.

Three years later you sign on
~ Disaronno Slave Girl ~
What’s happened to you?
You say Hi, What’s Going On
It’s been awhile, I don’t know you.
You tell me you made it to the city
Made it out of that town.

We meet up in your car
Cruise the mall, get kicked out of a bar
You say it so matter of fact
“Yeah, now I’m a cocaine addict”
I don’t know what to say.

Cocoa-puffs, lined with shit
I never knew about all this.
You were a pothead, a used girl
An abused and abusing girl.
But this’ too strong
Coke is hard
You can’t handle this shit.

I thought we were broken
Back in the day
But here you made it
Out of that town
Just to kill yourself the same old way.
