A Fistful of God by Supernova-Exploding
Spiraling out into the Caribbean blue
After fish tacos, snorkeling, and pints of rum
We're drunk in paradise by 10 AM.
Tequila and sundresses to start the day
Haze of pot smoke drifting through palm leaves
Lipstick and salt staining every glass
Recline on the bench and flick some ashes
As clouds become lizards and the oxygen squirms
Chili pepper cooking burns our nostrils
while waves of heat scorch our lungs.
Tiny Latina beauty with toddler on hip
Swaying sensuously, arm raised in the air
Reaching to the heavens for a fistful of God.
Festive salsa marries smooth undertones of jazz
A child with a flute and an Argentine flag
bursts dreams in our eyes with an innocent smile.
We drown our New World arrogance
in fine tequila with a sense of entitlement
Numbed and gazing at crowded families
barefoot children, rowdy dogs,
handmade crafts and piss-warm beer
With privilege in pocket
we rise above it all
Floating in serene cerulean skies.
Spiraling out into the Caribbean blue
After fish tacos, snorkeling, and pints of rum
We're drunk in paradise by 10 AM.
